Sharon Hills is located on the northern border of the Town of Newmarket, at the top of 404 Hwy. The original area of Sharon was built in the 50's and was mainly comprised of small 3 bedroom brick bungalows and cape cod style 1-1/2 story homes on 1/2 acre lots. The newer area was started about 1985 and the homes were larger 2 story models typically with 3 car garages and alson on 1/2 acre lots and later phases on 3/4 acre lots. The large lots are a result of individual septic systems that each home has, as there is no municipal sewer system in Sharon as of yet. The street scapes have matured and the area has wonderful landscaped lots and beautiful curb appeal. It is a very sought after area to live due to its easy ( 4min) access to 404 hwy and the close proximity to shops and services in Newmarket.
The East Gwillimbury town offices and civic centre are located in the heart of Sharon and hosts saturday Farmers Markets, classic car rally's, music in the park evening throughout the summer and a host of other family friendly activities. Vinces market is located within Sharon and has been around since Sharon was a tiny sleepy little berg and it too has grown from a roadside stand into a large modern store with grocery, deli, bakery, garden centre and of course the fruits and vegetables that it has always been famous for. The East Gwillimbury Sports Complex has just undergone an expansion and renovation and is also located within Sharon and has a large arena, ball and soccer fields and upstairs meeting rooms. The Sharon area is still surrounded by rural areas and green fields and has a small community feel and pride of ownership. There are 2 schools located in Sharon, Sharon Public Elementary and Catholic Elementary. High school students are bused to Newmarket schools.
